Who we are

Direct experience — not only in advising businesses, but in building, operating and transacting them.

BDC Capital is a private acquisition and investment firm focused on working with business owners to deliver structured, commercially grounded transactions.

Our approach is shaped by direct experience.

We do not approach transactions as theoretical exercises. We approach them as commercial processes that must work in practice — from the first conversation through to completion.

From the outset, we focus on understanding the business in operational terms; establishing clarity around objectives, priorities and timing; aligning expectations on value and structure; and ensuring that any proposal we make is one we can realistically deliver.

Paul is a business owner, investor and qualified accountant with over twenty-five years' experience building, scaling, acquiring and exiting businesses across a range of sectors.

His career has not been limited to advisory roles. He has operated directly as a principal — taking responsibility for the performance, growth and strategic direction of businesses — providing him with a practical, real-world understanding of what drives value, and what can undermine it.

A career in commercial reality

Operating as a principal — not only an advisor.

Throughout his career, Paul has been actively involved in the day-to-day decisions and discipline that build durable businesses. This breadth of experience allows him to view opportunities through a commercial lens, rather than a purely theoretical or advisory perspective.

  • Building businesses from early-stage through to maturity
  • Scaling operations and improving financial performance
  • Navigating periods of growth, pressure and change
  • Leading decision-making at both operational and strategic levels
  • Structuring and executing acquisition and disposal transactions
Financial & operational fluency

Technical foundations, applied with practical judgement.

As a qualified accountant, Paul brings a strong technical foundation across financial performance and control, cash flow and profitability, transaction structuring, and tax efficiency and planning.

What differentiates the approach is the ability to combine that technical expertise with hands-on entrepreneurial experience.

  • Strong financial performance must be supported by operational reality
  • Reported numbers do not always reflect underlying quality
  • Decisions need both analytical rigour and practical judgement

How businesses really operate

The numbers tell part of the story. The rest is in how the business actually functions.

Having built and managed businesses himself, Paul has direct experience of managing teams and operational delivery, dealing with commercial pressure and uncertainty, balancing growth with financial control, making decisions with incomplete information, and navigating the realities of day-to-day ownership.

This ensures that when assessing a business or structuring a transaction, the focus is not just on what the numbers say — but on how the business genuinely performs in practice.

A balanced perspective
“The success of a transaction is determined not just by price, but by structure, alignment and execution.”

Paul has worked on both sides of transactions — as a buyer, a seller and an advisor — giving him a balanced view of the importance of fair value, the risks of different deal structures, the impact of terms over time, and the difference between a deal that is agreed and one that actually completes.

Working with business owners

Selling a business is not purely a financial event.

It is often a significant personal milestone, involving years of effort, relationships and responsibility. Paul's approach reflects that — grounded in clear, direct and honest communication; a focus on realistic and deliverable outcomes; professionalism at every stage; and respect for the business, its people and its history.

BDC Capital — applying that experience

A consistent, disciplined philosophy.

The objective is not simply to complete transactions — but to complete them properly.

01

Selective focus

A small number of high-quality opportunities, where there is a clear commercial rationale and a genuine path to completion.

02

Clear structures

Transactions structured to be commercially balanced, deliverable in practice and free of unnecessary complexity.

03

Execution discipline

Consistent process management, early alignment and the discipline to maintain momentum through to completion.

04

Long-term value

The aim is to build value over time — not simply to close. We treat each business as a continuation, not an exit event.
